During the night, a large number of Russian drones crossed into Polish airspace. Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that a military operation to shoot them down is underway. The Polish army announced that some drones have already been shot down and that they are searching for the crash sites.
Due to this situation, Polish and allied fighter jets took action, including early warning planes, refueling tankers, and F-35s, which could be tracked live via FlightRadar.
BBC reporter from Kyiv, Sarah Rainsford, states that the drones did not “stray,” but instead went deep into Polish territory during the latest Russian attack on Ukraine.

The Polish army designated three particularly endangered regions: Podlaskie, Mazowieckie (in which Warsaw is located), and Lubelskie Voivodeship. Numerous videos of the incident are arriving from the field.
Police in Poland confirmed that a damaged drone was found in the village of Czosnówka, about 40 kilometers from the border with Belarus. It is believed that this drone participated in the Russian army’s night raid into Polish airspace.
The drone is currently being examined, and more will be known only after the investigation is completed.

The Polish government has warned anyone who finds a downed drone not to approach it, saying that “such objects can be dangerous and must be inspected by experts.”
This is not the first time that Russian aircraft have entered Poland—drones and missiles have crossed the border multiple times before, and there were civilian casualties in 2022. However, the Polish army has never before shot down a Russian aircraft. Because of this, the current situation is considered a serious escalation for both Poland and NATO.
