A contract was signed in Belgrade between the company NIS and the Serbian Orthodox Church-Eparchy of Banat, by which the company gifts the church land with the accompanying facility of the Vojlovica monastery, located within the “Pančevo” Oil Refinery complex, RTS reported.

The contract was signed at the Patriarchal Palace by the Archbishop of Vršac and Metropolitan of Banat Nikanor and the CEO of NIS Kirill Tyurdenev, in the presence of Patriarch Porfirije and the Ambassador of Russia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.

Tyurdenev, according to RTS, emphasized the special significance for NIS, as it is an act of responsibility and respect by the company toward the community in which it operates. He also stated that the Serbian Orthodox Church is the bearer of the cultural identity of the Serbian people, which is why it is important for the company to be its reliable partner.

He added that the monastery is located in the immediate vicinity of the “Pančevo” Refinery and is the strength that guards the refinery.

“This is something we are leaving for future generations as well,” Tyurdenev said.

The Vojlovica monastery is located within the “Pančevo” Oil Refinery complex; it was founded in the 15th century, and due to its exceptional historical, architectural, and cultural values, the monastery of the Holy Archangels Vojlovica has been declared a cultural property of exceptional importance.
