Students from Serbia cycling to Strasbourg arrived this evening in Ulm, where a ceremonial welcome was organized, and the Serbian flag was displayed on stage. The anthems of the European Union, Ode to Joy, and Serbia, Bože pravde, were played.
Jakub Mazur, a representative of the city administration of the German city of Ulm, said that “the students’ endeavor is not a simple cycling tour, but a journey of resistance and hope for all those who have been silenced.” The students, who are cycling to Strasbourg, had set off this morning from Munich, where they were also welcomed.
“You have embarked on this journey for peace, freedom, democracy, and the values that unite us,” said Mazur.
He added that it is “unacceptably rude to speak ill” of people who protest peacefully.
“We want to express our recognition. Your efforts for a just society impress us,” Mazur said, concluding his speech with the word “Pumpaj.”
