Nikola Jokić is doing whatever he wants in the NBA league, but he still doesn’t have the right support.
He recorded his 32nd triple-double of the season in an impressive manner. He became the center with the most triple-doubles in a single NBA season. He was previously tied with Wilt Chamberlain.
He reached 41 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists, but even that wasn’t enough for Denver to avoid a 125-120 defeat to Indiana. Although Jokić scored 61, 33, and 41 points in a row, the Nuggets lost. Moreover, they have four consecutive losses and have created a problem for themselves.
Myles Turner led Indiana with 24 points, and it wasn’t noticeable that they were playing without Tyrese Haliburton. Indiana overcame a 13-point deficit, and even a career night from Christian Braun, who scored 30 points, didn’t help Denver.
Jokić made 18 of 33 shots from the field (3/11 for three) and made two of three free throws. Jokić was called for an over-and-back violation with 14 seconds left at 122-120 for Indiana because Braun misread the handoff and caused that situation.
Jamal Murray missed his fifth consecutive game for Denver, and Denver coach Michael Malone said he “hopes” he will be ready for the start of the playoffs.
Denver has fallen extremely quickly from the second position, and now in the tight Western Conference, they could find themselves in a situation where they have to play in the play-in tournament to even find their place. The Nuggets now face a road game against Sacramento (Thursday, 04:00 CET).
