Iva Jović, the world No. 14, defeated No. 18-ranked Aleksandra Eala in the third round of the US Open after a dramatic battle, winning 7:5, 3:6, 7:5.

Iva Jović managed to come out on top in the thrilling match, just as was expected.

In the first set, she had as much as a two-break advantage when she led 4:1, but her opponent fought back to level the score. Three consecutive breaks followed, before Iva Jović finally settled the first set in the 12th game, in which she did not lose a single point.

The second set followed a different course. Jović first lost her serve, allowing Eala to take a 3:2 lead. The run of breaks continued, with the players exchanging service breaks five times in a row during this stretch.

Iva Jović twice found herself a break down in the deciding set. Eala moved ahead 4:2, but she won only one more game for the rest of the match, taking the 10th game while serving to stay in the match.

With this victory, Iva Jović earned a fortune – $480,000, the prize awarded to every player reaching the round of 16 at the US Open.

The American, who is Serbian by descent, this time defeated a Filipina whose popularity has skyrocketed recently. Wherever Aleksandra Eala plays, she is usually supported by a large number of fans. This time, however, Iva Jović was better on Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis stadium in the world.

Iva Jović’s next challenge will be American tennis star Coco Gauff, currently ranked fourth in the world.
