The best Serbian tennis player, Novak Đoković, will try over the next two weeks to delight us all with a new title at the Australian Open, and ahead of the very start of the first Grand Slam of the season he held a press conference in Melbourne.
There were many interesting questions for our Novak Đoković, but one stood out in particular. Journalists were interested in when the best tennis player of today would step away from the court, that is, retire.
Naturally, Đoković is still not ready to do that, as he believes that he still has enough will and strength to achieve notable results, even at the age of 39, so he surprised many with his answer.
“I am often asked when the end will come for me, but I am not thinking about that yet, I am here and I am competing. When that matures in my head, I will share it with you, and then we can talk about a farewell tour, but right now I am still number four in the world, competing with the best in the world, there is no need for that discussion,” Novak Đoković said.
He says that he regrets nothing in his career and points out that he has broken almost every record that existed.
“Some athletes regret not having achieved a certain goal, but there are many athletes, at least those I have listened to, who value what they have done. It is all a matter of personal perspective. I am the last person who should complain, I have broken more or less every record, I am grateful to tennis for the opportunity to live a dream, travel the world… Successes are the greatest motivation and guiding star, but that is not the only thing, interaction with people, love for the game, the adrenaline when you step onto the court, it’s like a drug, and I think many other athletes agree with that,” Đoković underlined.
