Three people, including an eight-month-old baby, were killed by gunfire, and two teenagers were wounded after a conflict between two groups at a traditional annual carnival in a suburb of Salt Lake City last night, police announced.
Among the deceased are a 41-year-old bystander and an 18-year-old male from one of the groups involved in the conflict. They died in a shooting that occurred during “Westfest” at Centennial Park in West Valley City, according to police information.

Teen Suspect Apprehended
The shooting was initiated by a 16-year-old boy. The West Valley City Police Department stated that as officers approached to break up the conflict between the two groups, the 16-year-old from one of them pulled out a handgun and began firing at the other group.
Police returned fire but did not hit the suspect, who was subsequently apprehended.

The injured teenagers, a male and a female, were shot in the arms, but it is unclear if they are connected to the groups involved in the conflict, police said.
According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, this year alone, the United States has seen 156 such mass shootings in which four or more people were injured or killed, not including the perpetrator.
