Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić announced that members of the Ministry of the Interior’s Sector for Emergency Situations and Helicopter Unit, together with employees of the public forestry company Vojvodinašume and volunteer firefighting units, are continuing their intensive battle against the massive wildfire in the Deliblato Sands.
In a post on Instagram, Dačić said that the fire has so far spread across more than 700 hectares.
A total of 105 firefighter-rescuers with 19 fire engines and two ATV vehicles have been deployed to the scene, along with four members of the Fire and Rescue Units Administration with two vehicles, 11 volunteer firefighters with one vehicle and one quad bike, as well as 57 employees of Vojvodinašume using 17 vehicles and six pieces of heavy machinery.
The Ministry of the Interior’s Helicopter Unit is also taking part in the firefighting operation. Three helicopters – a Kamov Ka-32, an H215 Super Puma and an H145 – are continuously operating from the air, targeting the most critical sections of the wildfire.
Dačić emphasized that the operation is still ongoing and that all available resources remain engaged in an effort to bring the fire under control and prevent its further spread.
The wildfire in the Deliblato Sands is one of the largest currently facing Serbia’s firefighting and rescue units, with emergency services continuing around-the-clock efforts to contain it.
