Authorities in Tennessee announced on Saturday that no survivors were found at the site of a massive explosion that occurred the day before at a rural factory. The blast took place at the Accurate Energetic Systems facility near Bucksnort, about 80 kilometers west of Nashville, shortly before 8:00 a.m. local time on Friday.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis stated at a press conference that a team of more than 300 investigators conducted a “very delicate, very methodical” search of nearly every square inch of the facility but found no survivors.
Officials initially reported multiple fatalities and at least 18 missing persons. The sheriff conveyed how devastating the situation was, saying: “We consider this even more horrific than we initially thought… It’s a tremendous loss. A great loss.”
Due to the nature of the explosion, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is on site conducting “rapid DNA testing” to identify the remains of the victims. Sheriff Davis noted: “We’re dealing with explosions. And I would say at this point, we’re dealing with remains.”
Federal Investigation Underway
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has dispatched its National Response Team (NRT), an “elite team” of highly trained specialists, to lead the investigation into the origin and cause of the blast.
The NRT team consists of special agents, certified explosives experts, bomb technicians, and fire investigators.
Their primary responsibility is to analyze, process, and document the accident site.
ATF officials stated that their bomb technicians are working carefully and methodically to secure the area and make it as safe as possible for the arrival of the NRT.
Asked about the possibility of a criminal act, Sheriff Davis said: “Can I say that we will rule out foul play? We cannot answer that. It could take days, weeks, or months before we can do that.”

Impact on the Community
The company, Accurate Energetic Systems, issued a statement saying that a “tragic accident” occurred at their facility and extended condolences to the families, employees, and the community.
Jeremy Moore, a longtime employee, has been identified as missing. His mother, Ava Hinson, expressed the agony of uncertainty, saying: “The not knowing is incredible. I almost, I don’t want to hear bad news, but I’d almost feel better if I knew.”
The investigation is ongoing as federal and local agencies continue to work at the hazardous site.
