Three more people have died in Iranian overnight rocket attacks on the Israeli city of Haifa, Israel’s national emergency service, Magen David Adom, announced. This brings the death toll from the overnight attacks to eight.
One person was killed in the central Israeli city of Bnei Brak, and four in Petah Tikva. Videos show explosions near an oil refinery in Haifa, with buildings damaged and part of the infrastructure set ablaze. Since Friday, when the two countries began exchanging rocket attacks, a total of 23 people have died in Israel, according to the Israeli Prime Minister’s office. In Iran, at least 224 people have died since the beginning of hostilities, the Iranian Health Ministry announced on Sunday, according to official Iranian media.
Scenes of fear, chaos, and anxiety filled the streets of Tel Aviv early Monday after the latest wave of Iranian rocket attacks. CNN’s Jerusalem correspondent Jeremy Diamond saw streets filled with rubble as rescue and military teams searched a site that appeared to have been hit by four ballistic missiles.
One woman said she “felt the force” of the attack from her basement, where she was hiding.
“We came out very slowly because we were scared,” she told Diamond, adding that buildings were collapsing as they walked. One of the residential buildings near the site partially collapsed, and rubble could be seen from several blocks away, Diamond said, adding that at least 10 people were taken to the hospital. People could be seen arriving to assess the damage, and families and friends embraced, as the shock of the attack further added to residents’ anxiety.
Iran Claims Successful Strikes
Iranian authorities announced this morning that they successfully attacked Israel with a barrage of missiles that hit several cities across the country and promised more devastating attacks on vital Israeli targets.
“A new wave of attacks by the Revolutionary Guard with missiles that successfully and effectively hit targets in Israel,” Iran’s ideological army announced. It added that the operation was carried out “successfully despite the full support of the US and Western powers, thanks to Iran’s possession of the most modern defense technologies.”
The Guard pledged to continue “effective, targeted, and more devastating operations against vital targets in Israel.” Israel continued attacks on Iran for the fourth consecutive night.
It was reported that during the past night, locations with surface-to-surface missiles were targeted, followed by Tehran, the holy city of Mashhad in the far northeast of the country, and military facilities in the west. Tehran responded with new rocket attacks.
Attack on Quds Command Centers
On the other hand, Israeli fighter jets attacked command centers belonging to Quds, the clandestine unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced. “In these command centers, Quds operatives carried out terrorist attacks against the State of Israel using proxies of the Iranian regime in the Middle East,” an IDF spokesperson said.
An IDF video showed 10 locations identified as Quds and other military targets that were attacked in Tehran.
The Quds Force is a powerful unit within the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), formed during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s as a special intelligence unit. They are credited with a leading role in Iran’s relations with armed groups in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip, including Hezbollah and Hamas.
IRGC Commander Hossein Salami was killed in Israel’s initial attacks on Iran on Friday. He has since been replaced by General Ahmed Vahidi.
US Diplomatic Mission Damaged
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stated today that a building at his diplomatic mission in Tel Aviv sustained minor damage after Iranian attacks on the country overnight. “There was minor damage due to the wave of Iranian rocket attacks near one of the embassy buildings in Tel Aviv,” Huckabee wrote on the social media platform X.
