Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Đurić, today in New York, at the session of the United Nations Security Council, accused the authorities in Priština of waging a war against Kosovo Serbs with the aim of expelling them, of sabotaging the Brussels dialogue, and of reversing the hard-won progress from the time of the first term of US President Donald Trump.

At the UN Security Council session, which is reviewing the new report of UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the work of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Đurić said that despite this, Serbia remains committed to the dialogue with Priština under the auspices of the European Union and believes that a Serbian-Albanian friendship is possible in the future.

“Serbia has repeatedly warned that peace cannot be built by arming one side and neglecting the concerns of the other side. This nullifies the hard-won progress from the time of President Trump’s first term, which encouraged hope for regional stability and partnership,” Đurić said.

At the session reviewing Guterres’s report for the period from March 16 to September 15, 2025, Đurić stated that the government of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is carrying out “ethnically motivated attacks, systematic persecution, arbitrary arrests, and uncontrolled violence.”

“This is a direct challenge to the principles on which the UN is founded. In this context, Serbia welcomes the Secretary-General’s report as a modest, but significant step forward toward a more realistic view of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija,” Đurić added.

The head of Serbian diplomacy said that Belgrade “deeply appreciates” the role of UNMIK, but added that Guterres’s report “does not fully reflect the scale of the tragedy that is unfolding every day” in Kosovo.

“This is not an abstract crisis, but the destruction of human lives. Ethnically motivated attacks have become routine. If you are a Serb, no youth, innocence, or vulnerability protects you, you are marked just because you exist. This systematic denial of rights is not only a problem for the Serbian people, but also a moral failure of the international community,” Đurić said.
