Milorad Dodik, President of Republika Srpska (RS), stated after a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu that Russia is monitoring the situation in RS and understands, as he put it, the pressure faced by the leadership of that entity within BiH.

Dodik, who participated in the International Conference of High Representatives for Security Issues in Moscow, said that Shoigu stated that relations between RS and Russia are “very good and at a strategic level,” as reported by Radio Television of RS (RTRS).

“Russia is very diligently monitoring the situation in RS and understands that the pressure on the leadership is very difficult for us, but they believe that we can overcome these problems,” Dodik said.

Dodik also mentioned that they discussed the challenges of doing business under sanctions.

“Shoigu believes that the sanctions have, in a way, made the Russian public more aware, but that it is necessary to maintain certain business arrangements,” he stated.

Dodik highlighted that he was a special guest at the International Conference of High Representatives for Security Issues and was the first foreigner to address the gathering, which, according to him, demonstrates Russia’s stance towards the RS leadership.

During the meeting with Dodik, Shoigu said that the goal of Western pressure on Republika Srpska is to remove patriotic forces from power, Tanjug reported.

“We see the pressure that the West is exerting on Republika Srpska, on you personally, your comrades-in-arms, and family members. The goal of such a policy is clear – to remove the patriotic forces you lead from power,” Shoigu told Dodik, according to RIA Novosti.

He noted that Russia views the sentence handed down to Dodik by the BiH court as part of a broader campaign against Republika Srpska and the Serbian people as a whole.

Shoigu concluded by stating that Russia will continue to support Republika Srpska.
