A powerful storm is causing major damage across Croatia today. Firefighters and emergency services have been working nonstop since yesterday afternoon to remove fallen trees from roads, parts of highways have been closed, and strong winds have caused damage in Zagreb, while numerous warnings remain in effect for citizens, N1 Zagreb reports.
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević stated that several people suffered minor injuries in the capital, while one person in Zagreb County was more seriously injured but is not in life-threatening condition. He urged Zagreb residents not to go outside unless absolutely necessary due to the severe weather, N1 Zagreb reports.
Due to dangerous weather conditions and storm-force winds in Croatia, classes in Zagreb primary and secondary schools are not being held.

The decision was made by the City of Zagreb and the Ministry, and if children cannot stay at home, supervision will be organized for them.
Kindergartens will operate normally, although parents are advised to keep children at home if possible, the City announced.

“The situation is most serious in Zagreb”
Interior Minister Davor Božinović addressed the media. “The situation is most serious in Zagreb, all services are in the field. It is certain that recovery will take some time,” said Davor Božinović.
Fire Chief Slavko Tucaković said the situation is far from good: “The most severe situations are in the areas of Zagreb, Zagreb County, Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Krapina-Zagorje County. There is a lot of water on the ground and pumping will be required. The wind is causing major problems, we will work according to priorities. I ask all citizens not to move around the streets, stay at home, we are overwhelmed with calls—report only what is urgent.”

Over 300 firefighting interventions overnight
The State Hydrometeorological Institute issued a warning for storm-force winds with hurricane-strength gusts.
Given such winds and their consequences, disruptions in traffic and other parts of the city are expected.
The number of firefighting interventions increased overnight from around 100 to more than 300, and firefighters are currently unable to remove all fallen trees, lifted roofs, and scaffolding due to the continuous strong wind, the City reported.
