Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, co-chair of the Serbian Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, stated today, after being presented with the Order of the Serbian Flag of the First Degree by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, that U.S. President Donald Trump told her in a phone call to convey his greetings to Serbia and that he hopes to visit it.

Tenney revealed that last night, while she was sitting in a restaurant, her phone rang and it was U.S. President Donald Trump.

“He was talking to me about something else and asked me, ‘Where are you?’ I said I was in Serbia, and now I quote what he told me: ‘I really love Serbia; convey my greetings and tell them I hope to come visit it one day, hopefully now that the new ambassador is coming,'” Tenney recounted.

She expressed her pleasure at returning to Serbia after almost 40 years and seeing numerous changes for the better.

“Thank you to everyone in Serbia, President Vučić, for the great changes we observe compared to 40 years ago, starting from the airport to the wonderful buildings and everything that didn’t exist before,” the congresswoman added.

She mentioned that she first came to Belgrade in 1981 as a student and also worked at the consulate of the former Yugoslavia in New York.

“I worked for the former consulate of Yugoslavia in New York, as well as for the sports desk; I covered the Olympic Games in Sarajevo. I am connected to all the people in the former Yugoslavia. Part of my job at the consulate was to take care of all the people who came from Yugoslavia in a sporting context,” Tenney said.
