After supporting Donald Trump on the eve of the election and urging Serbs living in the United States to vote for him, Milorad Dodik, the President of the Republic of Srpska, was among the first world leaders to congratulate the newly elected president.
In his message, Dodik said:
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory and hope that his new mandate will bring a refreshed vision of the United States’ relations with the world and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is an opportunity for America to show that it respects diversity and directs its strength towards cooperation and stability, while respecting the rights and needs of every people.
For the Republic of Srpska and for me personally, Trump’s victory symbolizes a return to the values we cherish — family, freedom of choice, and the right to preserve our own traditions. In a world that is changing, where individuals and states are often asked to forget their roots, I see in Trump’s leadership the possibility for a different, fairer approach that will not impose ideas that Americans themselves do not support in their homes.
I expect that the new American administration will be a partner that understands the importance of stability and supports local leaders in making decisions about their own future. This is the path to sustainable peace and progress — for every community to have the freedom and right to develop according to its values and traditions. I look forward to the day when the relations between the Republic of Srpska and the United States will be based on genuine respect and shared goals,” said Milorad Dodik in his congratulatory message to Donald Trump.
