Boris Milićević, a member of the Main Board and Presidency of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), announced today that he is leaving the party, stating that there are many reasons for his decision and that anyone who stands for freedom, equality, the rule of law and socialist principles will vote for the Students’ List in the upcoming elections.

In an Instagram post, Milićević told SPS leader Ivica Dačić that leaving the party had not been an easy decision, considering the many dear people who are part of the party, as well as the valuable experience he had gained as an SPS member.

“I will not list all the reasons for my decision; there are many. After all, I discussed them with you in a timely manner, unfortunately without any effect. As someone who was once the top student at the Faculty of Political Sciences, you know that responsibility cannot be avoided, no matter how hard many in Serbia are working to undermine this concept. I consider myself a responsible person who is prepared to accept all the consequences of the decision stated above,” Milićević emphasized.

He said he had previously told Dačić that it was up to him to decide whether he would go down in history as the man who revitalized the SPS or as the man who reduced the party to political survival without a serious plan or identity.

He also warned Dačić that his greatest responsibility was to prevent the SPS from turning into the Yugoslav Left (JUL).

“However, you chose not only to remain silent about violations of citizens’ human rights and the undermining of institutions, but also to defend the lack of accountability for the mass-casualty tragedy in Novi Sad. You chose violence against citizens, which culminated on March 15, 2025. You chose to glorify a war criminal. You chose anti-European policies. You chose the persecution and silencing of dissenting voices within the party,” Milićević stressed.

He wished Dačić and his former party comrades success and happiness in their personal lives, adding that he feared there had long been “neither the will nor the room for political success.”
