Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić stated that Croatia will not give Serbia the green light to join the European Union until the issue of missing persons from the war in Croatia is resolved.
“The issue of the missing and the issue of Serbia’s entry into the European Union are two connected matters. It cannot happen that one state does not have bilaterally resolved open issues with another, and that the other state, in this case Croatia, gives the green light for EU accession,” Anušić said in Đakovo, as reported by Croatian Radio-Television.
He emphasized that the issue of the missing is “the first and most important issue in relations between Croatia and Serbia.”
“We expect Serbia to fulfill its obligation,” the Croatian minister stressed.
Anušić attended the send-off ceremony in Đakovo for members of the 44th Croatian contingent (HRVCON) deployed to the KFOR mission in Kosovo.
