Members of criminal organizations who used the Sky system for messaging allegedly communicated about hiding cocaine shipments in the Serbian embassy in Lisbon, write Podgorica-based Vijesti.
In the subheading of the Vijesti text, it is stated that “the diplomatic mission in Lisbon was described by Sky users as a safe house.”
In the announcement of the text on the front page of today’s print edition, this newspaper cites one of the messages, which reads:
“I’m driving the goods direct to the embassy in case something happens, you know where it is. I’ll give you the ambassador’s WhatsApp,” says a certain Ivan Mijatovic in a message to Milo Bozovic, otherwise a former member of the Montenegrin Democratic Front, arrested in 2023 for narcotics smuggling.
The Vijesti text also states that the Ministry of Internal and Foreign Affairs of Serbia did not respond to their questions.
Who was Ambassador Oliver Antic
During the period when the correspondence was created, the Serbian ambassador to Portugal was the now-deceased Oliver Antic, a diplomat, founder of the Serbian Progressive Party, former professor at the Faculty of Law, former advisor to Tomislav Nikolic, and a person linked to several scandals.
One of them is the “Index” affair, one of the biggest scandals that revealed the sale of exams and diplomas at the Faculty of Law in Kragujevac. As we previously wrote, it involved an established network of bribed professors who received bribes in the amount of 500 to 1,000 euros for an exam and 12,000 to 16,000 euros for a faculty diploma. The affair was discovered thanks to a police officer who detained an auto mechanic who offered to arrange for him to graduate from the faculty. This discovery led to the first indictment, which included as many as 89 people. A marathon trial followed, which is still not fully concluded, as the Court of Appeal ordered that the trial be repeated in one part.
A criminal complaint was also previously filed against Antic alleging that in the period from the summer of 2020 to August 2021, in his house in Belgrade, he sexually abused his daughter, who was nine years old at the time. The complaint was filed by the girl’s mother, and this case remained unresolved since he passed away in 2022.
Portuguese media wrote in 2022 that Antic was on an official visit to the municipality of Cascais accompanied by diplomatic staff and that he fell from a cliff. His colleagues alerted emergency services at 1:20 p.m., who, according to “Correio da Manha,” managed to pull the ambassador out of the sea while he was still alive, after which he was transferred to resuscitation. However, the Portuguese “Observer” wrote, citing a source from the Lisbon District Relief Command (CDOS), that Antic died at the scene.
Claims appeared that Antic committed suicide, but the family rejected those allegations, claiming it was an accident and that Antic slipped and fell. They also stated at the time that a recording exists.
Antic’s family also rejected the allegations that he ever abused his illegitimate daughter.
Official biography
Antic was born in Belgrade in 1950, where he finished primary school, high school, and the Faculty of Law.
He received his master’s degree in 1978 and his doctorate in 1983.
He was the dean of the Faculty of Law in Belgrade from 1998 to 2000.
At that time, after the passing of the University Law, the so-called “Seselj’s Law,” professors of the Faculty of Law critical of the regime at the time were fired.
He was close to the Serbian Radical Party, only to later become one of the founders of the SNS, Nova wrote previously.
In June 2012, he was appointed as an advisor to the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, and in December of the same year as the high representative of Serbia in the Standing Mixed Committee for Succession Issues.
The decree on the appointment of Antic to the post of ambassador in Portugal was made by the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, on November 10, 2015, while four years later President Aleksandar Vucic made a decree on the appointment of Oliver Antic to the duty of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Serbia also in the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, on a non-residential basis, with a seat in Lisbon.
