ARRESTS IN KRAGUJEVAC: Group arrested on suspicion of defrauding the budget of 34 million RSD!

Police in Kragujevac have arrested five individuals on suspicion of committing tax evasion, causing damage to the budget of the Republic of Serbia in an amount exceeding 34 million dinars, the Tax Administration announced today.

They are also suspected of money laundering, through which they allegedly obtained unlawful financial gain exceeding 82.9 million dinars. The primary suspect, who is the responsible person of a business entity, along with the financial director of that entity, allegedly ordered the recording of false invoices for supposed construction services in business documentation between 2017 and 2022. These invoices were issued by the owners of entrepreneurial businesses—three other individuals from this group.

Based on these false invoices, the tax base for calculation was reduced, allowing the primary suspect to evade declaring and paying corporate income tax in the amount of 34,263,520 dinars.

According to the report, after issuing the false invoices, the primary suspect made payments based on them. Following this, the responsible individuals of the controlled business entities withdrew the funds—totaling 82,988,299 dinars—and returned them in cash to the primary suspect, thereby committing the criminal offense of money laundering.

The suspects have been placed in detention and will be brought before the competent prosecutor’s office along with a criminal complaint. The operation was carried out by inspectors from the Tax Police Sector, the Operational Department of Kragujevac, and the Criminal Police Directorate, Department for Combating Corruption, under the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo.
