U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy told truck drivers: “If you are not properly trained and licensed, you should not be behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer.”
The Transportation Secretary said his department is carrying out a tough crackdown on fraud after it was discovered that state-certified examiners had approved more than 2,000 commercial driver’s licenses for drivers who could neither speak nor read English.
Duffy also announced the immediate shutdown of 110 driving schools linked to 5,000 violations involving English-language proficiency, emphasizing that the goal of the action is to restore safety on American roads.
