During the general strike on January 24th, when students called on citizens to boycott shopping at all points of sale, consumers across Serbia spent 2.24 billion dinars less than seven days earlier, on January 17th. At the same time, the Serbian Tax Administration recorded 1.1 million fewer fiscal receipts compared to the same day a week earlier.

The drop in turnover and the number of issued fiscal receipts on January 24th is recorded, in addition to the entire territory of Serbia, in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš – the three cities for which the N1 portal requested data from the Serbian Tax Administration.

Namely, the Tax Administration responded to the request of the N1 portal and provided us, in accordance with the Law on Access to Information of Public Importance, with data on registered turnover at fiscal cash registers throughout Serbia on the day of the general strike on January 24th, which the students called for.

The realized turnover and the number of receipts refer to all points of sale, regardless of whether it is a matter of small or large stores, restaurants, gas stations, hotels, medical practices, hairdressers…
