The parliamentary group in the European Parliament, the European Democrats, announced that they are closely monitoring the local elections being held today in Serbia, assessing that serious incidents have been recorded across the country.
They posted a video from Bor on social media, which they claim shows thugs attacking accredited election observers in front of a polling station. Along with the video, they also sent a sharp message to the European People’s Party, of which the Serbian Progressive Party is a member.
“This is the democracy of Aleksandar Vučić: accredited election observers beaten by thugs from his party in front of polling stations. Friends from the European People’s Party – is this kind of behavior acceptable for one of your members?”, their statement reads.
Otherwise, elections are being held today in a total of 10 municipalities and cities in Serbia, and numerous incidents have been recorded throughout the day. According to reports from the field, in some areas the situation is tense, and the streets at times resemble a battlefield.
