The graffiti and murals that had stood for years on the walls of some buildings in North Mitrovica and Zvečan disappeared this morning. The repainting action was carried out by municipal leaders, with police assistance, KoSSev has confirmed.
In the city center, near the roundabout, murals dedicated to Patriarch Pavle and Metropolitan Amfilohije were painted over this morning.
On the same building, on another wall, graffiti with the messages “Because from here there is no going back, Kosovska Mitrovica,” as well as graffiti dedicated to the fighters from Košare, were also painted over.
This graffiti was also repainted in November of last year.
At that time, the faces and bodies of members of the Army of Serbia and Montenegro from Košare were covered with black paint, but the message “This country is worth dying for” remained, with the new word “peace” added.
This morning, some graffiti in Zvečan was also painted over.
The Kosovo Police for the North region confirmed to KoSSev that the action of repainting the graffiti and murals in North Mitrovica was organized by the Municipality. On the other hand, we were told that police officers assisted the hired workers.
