The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad has arrested one person, while another, identified by the initials G.M., is being sought over death threats made on election day in the Novo Naselje neighborhood of Novi Sad. KRIK reporters spotted Gorski Matović at the location that day. He had previously been convicted of violence and detained over an attack on students.
The Prosecutor’s Office specified that the incident took place on October 25 in Novo Naselje, Novi Sad, where there are grounds to suspect that the safety of several individuals was endangered after D.K. and G.M., who are suspects in the case, made serious threats against their lives.
“During the actions taken so far, the individual D.K. was arrested and placed in 48-hour detention, during which time he will be questioned by the acting public prosecutor, while a search warrant has been issued for G.M.,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
Earlier, the newspaper “Danas” reported that the police were searching for Gorski Matović and that the warrant had been issued because officers were unable to find him at his registered address.
On election day in Novi Sad’s Novo Naselje neighborhood, citizens and a mobile team from the Student List, consisting of registered observers stationed outside polling stations, noticed a group of men carrying sacks, as they told KRIK reporters.
Among them, as KRIK journalists also witnessed at the scene, was Gorski Matović, who had previously been convicted of violence and detained over an attack on students, KRIK reports.
Matović swore at and insulted citizens who had called the police, after which officers stood beside him, calmed him down and treated him in a friendly manner. After some time, Matović accompanied them to the police vehicles, without handcuffs, and got into one of the cars, as KRIK journalists witnessed at the scene.
Matović is one of the individuals who, over the past two years, since the student protests began, have defended the Serbian Progressive Party and attacked students. In February this year, during a protest in Novi Sad, Matović, who was part of a group of men, punched a student in the head and pushed a female student, who subsequently hit her head against a wall and fell onto the street. He has been charged over the incident.
In addition, as KRIK reported in its “Party Enforcers” database, in August last year Matović effectively provided security at the Serbian Progressive Party premises on Bulevar oslobođenja in Novi Sad during a student protest, alongside criminal figure and former leader of the “Korida” supporters’ group, Jovan Kecman.
Furthermore, footage published on social media shows that in early July 2025, he attempted to drive a car through a blockade near the Freedom Bridge in the city. Citizens had organized the blockade during a period of silence in memory of the 16 victims of the canopy collapse. Nevertheless, no proceedings were initiated against Matović over the incident.
Matović is one of 49 people pardoned by former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on the final day of his term in office.
He was pardoned for the criminal offense of violent behavior after striking a student in front of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad and then pushing a female student, who hit her head against a wall.
Matović’s latest incident occurred near a polling station on election day, October 25, when citizens reported him for intimidating voters alongside a group of men.
