The trade union organization of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments announced that, on behalf of the entire staff and all employees, it is demanding the resignation of acting director Goran Vasić, whose term expired back on June 27, 2025, and against whom criminal proceedings are being conducted before the Special Department for Organized Crime of the Higher Court in Belgrade.

“The reasons why we are demanding the resignation of the acting director are well known to the public. Over the past several years, employees of the Republic Institute have repeatedly and openly opposed unlawful actions that led to the Government of the Republic of Serbia revoking the status of immovable cultural property from the General Staff complex. Criminal proceedings have been initiated for the same reason against the former Minister of Culture, the acting director of the Republic Institute and two other individuals,” the union statement reads.

The union also stated that, despite the current developments, employees continue to carry out their duties.

“At the same time, we inform the public that employees of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments are continuing their work on protecting the immovable cultural heritage of the Republic of Serbia without interruption and with even greater enthusiasm, just as they have done until now,” the statement reads.
