General Director of Radio-Television of Vojvodina (RTV) Goran Karadžić has resigned from his position, Nova.rs has confirmed. He explained his decision as an act of morality, stating that after four days of transition, the time had come for him to step down as well.

“I think this is an act of morality. After four days of transition, we have laid the foundations for the work, and it is time for me to step down as well,” Karadžić told Nova.rs.

His resignation followed a series of personnel changes at Radio-Television of Vojvodina, which began immediately after the parliamentary elections.

As a reminder, just one day after the elections, RTV1 Editor-in-Chief Nenad Ćaćić resigned following a meeting between employees and union representatives and Goran Karadžić.

Karadžić confirmed at the time that Ćaćić had submitted his resignation.

On the same day, Predrag Novković was appointed program director.

RTV Apologizes to Citizens for Its Previous Reporting

Radio-Television of Vojvodina issued a public apology to citizens during its afternoon news bulletin for the way it had reported over the previous years.

Presenter Goran Eror explained that viewers were shown footage that the television station had failed to broadcast the previous evening, but also noted that these were not the only events about which the public had not been adequately informed.

“For many years, the public broadcaster has failed to fulfill its function,” Eror read.

The broadcast then acknowledged that certain events had been kept from the public, that news coverage had been one-sided, and that reporting had lacked critical scrutiny.

It was also stated that important questions had often not been asked, prompting an apology to viewers.

Goran Karadžić’s resignation marks another change in RTV’s management following the elections and the media outlet’s public acknowledgment of shortcomings in its previous coverage of events.
