Student of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad Veljko Petrović said for N1 that an acquittal was handed down in the proceedings conducted against him for the physical attack on the dean of DIF Patrik Drid.
“Today, a first-instance acquittal was handed down in the proceedings related to the event of April 28, 2025, in front of DIF in Novi Sad, in which I was accused of physically attacking the dean of DIF, Patrik Drid. Although the prosecutor requested 12 months of house arrest and a payment of 100,000 dinars to Drid, the court handed down an acquittal,” the student said for N1.
Petrović recalls that the regime media published articles in which they characterized him as the attacker and organizer of the attack on dean Drid, as well as that, as he says, he was detained after that.
“I am happy that justice, at least in this case, has won. Behind me are months that were extremely difficult, and I believe they were difficult for many citizens as well. Although this is a first-instance decision, I hope it will be final. I believe that unity is the only way to fight against injustice, both in front of courts and in society as a whole, if we want a better Serbia. I thank everyone who was with me and provided me with support. It is precisely on our unity that the kind of society we will live in depends,” the student stated.
As he told N1, he has not yet received the court’s verdict in written form because it was pronounced on July 8 at 11:15 am.
