The current president of the Novi Beograd Water Polo Club and former trophy-winning national team player Slobodan Soro has been elected as the new president of the Water Polo Federation of Serbia.
Slobodan Soro was the only candidate for president of the Water Polo Federation of Serbia (VSS). He was elected at today’s electoral session of the Assembly.
Soro replaced Viktor Jelenić in the position of president, who had been at the head of the federation since April 2018.
The former goalkeeper won eight medals at major competitions during his national team career. He was decorated with two bronzes at the Olympic Games, one gold and one silver each at the world championships, as well as two golds, one silver, and one bronze at the European championships.
After Serbia, Soro also played for the Brazilian national team, with which he won bronze at the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019.
He was a club champion of Europe twice – in 2000 with the Bečej team and in 2011 with Partizan, whose cap he wore on several occasions.
Marko Avramović, the current general secretary of the Association of Water Polo Coaches of Serbia and a former national team player, was elected president of the VSS Assembly.
Soro and Avramović were elected to a four-year mandate.
