Slavko Radojčić, president of the Association of Good People “Ognjište,” traveled almost 200 kilometers by bicycle from Pančevo to the Nimnik monastery and back, in order to help collect aid for the treatment of his fellow citizen Maja Veličković, a mother of three children suffering from invasive cancer. So far, 870 thousand dinars have been collected for her treatment in Athens.
That humanity is often manifested through personal effort and commitment to others is confirmed by Slavko Radojčić, president of the Pančevo Association of Good People “Ognjište.” As a sign of support for fellow citizen Maja Veličković, who suffers from invasive cancer, he covered almost 200 kilometers by bicycle from Pančevo to the Nimnik monastery. The goal of this humanitarian ride was to draw the attention of well-meaning people and collect money for Maja’s treatment abroad.
Slavko’s path led from Pančevo and Kovin to Banatska Palanka, from where he took a ferry to the Ram Fortress and continued to the Nimnik monastery.
“The trip went well, the weather served us. The problem is that I made a small mistake while taking a shortcut, I chose some terrain that wasn’t very good, but when you remember why you are doing all of it and what kind of problems the person you are doing it all for has – then nothing should represent a problem,” Slavko stated.
Upon his return, he was welcomed in the courtyard of the Church of the Holy Emperor Constantine and Empress Helen in Pančevo by members of Maja’s and his own family.
“It was emotional and it touched me quite a bit. Yesterday I saw Darko, Maja’s husband. She is still in poor condition, it’s getting a little better, but now she needs to recover in order to start chemotherapy, and in two to three months to go again to Athens, where she was for treatment, to have some check-ups done to see what comes next,” says Slavko Radojičić.
The “Ognjište” Association says that all those interested in helping this mother of three children can pay money into the association’s account with the note For Maja.
“In the month and a half since we started the action, we have collected 870 thousand dinars, which was handed over to Maja’s family yesterday, but we are not stopping there. Unfortunately, there are many in need and we have started an action for little Danica from Pančevo, a five-year-old girl who was in a traffic accident with her parents last year. That, however, does not mean that we will abandon Maja. We are still following the course of her treatment and we will look to help on both sides as much as we can,” says Slavko.
Several humanitarian concerts and charitable activities have been organized so far for Maja Veličković’s treatment, and many were also touched by the action of her children’s schoolmates, who on several occasions organized the sale of various items at a stand in the Strelište neighborhood to collect money for her treatment.
