US President Donald Trump announced on the social network Truth Social, an hour before the deadline he set for Iran, that he had agreed to a ceasefire for two weeks.
– Based on conversations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, during which they requested that I postpone the use of devastating force planned for tonight against Iran, and on the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to a complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attacks on Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a mutual ceasefire – Trump stated and added:
– The reason for this decision is that we have already met and exceeded all military goals, and we are very close to a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran, as well as peace in the Middle East. We have received Iran’s 10-point proposal and believe it represents a feasible basis for negotiations. Almost all points that were previously subjects of disagreement between the United States and Iran have been harmonized, but the two-week period will allow for the agreement to be finalized and implemented. On behalf of the United States, as president, and also representing the countries of the Middle East, I am honored that this long-standing problem is close to resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter – Trump stated.
