At least six people were killed and five were injured in a fire that broke out on a bus on the line between Düdingen and Kerzers in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland, police announced.
According to the Fribourg Cantonal Police, the injured include four passengers from the bus and one person who participated in providing assistance.
Three injured individuals were transported by ambulance to the hospital, while two people were treated at the scene.
Nine ambulances participated in the intervention, as well as a helicopter from the Swiss rescue service Rega.

The fire broke out on a bus operating on the route from Düdingen towards Kerzers, and the incident occurred not far from the last stop, on Murtenstrasse in Kerzers.
The police stated that the identities of the injured have been established, while the victims who perished have not yet been identified, Blick reports.
The investigation into this case is being led by the Fribourg Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office, while the police are conducting an investigation on the ground. According to initial information, there is a possibility that the fire was caused intentionally, that is, that it was a “conscious act” by one person, but the circumstances of the event have not yet been fully clarified.

The police confirmed they received information that one person on the bus may have doused themselves with gasoline before the fire broke out, but emphasize that this information has not been confirmed for now. When asked whether it was a possible terrorist attack, the police stated it is too early for such conclusions.
For now, there is no official information about the whereabouts of the person who might be responsible for the start of the fire, nor whether they are among the dead or injured.
The police announced that for now there are no indications that there is a danger to the general public.
According to footage and photos from eyewitnesses, the flames that engulfed the bus were several meters high, while thick smoke could be seen for miles. When the firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident, according to witnesses, only the completely burnt-out shell of the bus remained, Blick reports.
