The leader of the Civic Movement URA, Dritan Abazović, said that his experiences with the president of the Democratic People’s Party, Milan Knežević, have not been negative, leaving open the question of potential future cooperation between the two political options.

Appearing on the program Fakti sa Jelenom Novaković on Adria Television, Abazović simultaneously directed sharp criticism at the current government, particularly in the area of the security sector, assessing that the present executive structure has failed to deliver the expected stability or reforms.

Abazović recalled that he had previously spoken positively about certain ministers from the Democratic People’s Party, emphasizing that political differences do not necessarily imply personal or professional conflicts.

“I spoke positively about the former ministers from the ranks of the DNP – Maja Vukićević and Milun Zogović – even though we think differently,” the URA leader said.

“WE OWE CITIZENS A NEW AUGUST 30”

Speaking about his party’s future political strategy, Abazović said that URA advocates a return to the “starting point” – the political moment of 2020, when, as he noted, a historic breakthrough was made in the elections held on August 30.

“At that time, we ran independently and went before the citizens – I led that list. I believe that was the only moment when something truly big and positive was done for Montenegro. We owe the people a new August 30, so that August 31 can dawn. We owe that to the citizens, and that is an idea within our political movement,” he stressed.

According to political analysts, the message about a “new August 30” represents a clear allusion to the possibility of reshaping the political scene and a new positioning of opposition actors in relation to the current parliamentary majority.

WELCOME TO KNEŽEVIĆ IN THE OPPOSITION

During the show, Abazović welcomed Milan Knežević to the opposition ranks, stating that he had not expected the DNP leader to leave the government and the parliamentary majority.

He also welcomed Knežević’s comment that he feels better in the opposition, adding that it is “understandable that no one can feel good in the current government.”

Such positions expressed by the URA leader could signal a new phase in relations among opposition actors in Montenegro, at a time when there is increasing talk of re-examining relations within the ruling majority and the possibility of new political alliances.
