Partizan’s basketball players recorded a convincing victory in the 27th round of the EuroLeague against Panathinaikos, winning 78:60, with an incident during the third quarter that brought the Arena to its feet.

The Black-and-Whites entered the game after a painful last-second loss to Maccabi in the previous round, while Panathinaikos came in following a win over Real Madrid in Athens. Before tip-off, the EuroLeague standings showed the visitors in sixth place with a 16–10 record, while Partizan sat 18th with eight wins and 18 losses. Despite the Greeks being the favorites in this matchup, Penarroya and his players set up the game excellently and completely shut down the multiple-time European champions.

The opening quarter started fiercely. T.J. Shorts scored the first points for Panathinaikos, but the Black-and-Whites kept pace, and Cameron Payne turned the score around in Partizan’s favor with a three-pointer. Calathes and Osetkowski added points on fast breaks, and the first period ended tied.

The second quarter brought a back-and-forth battle. Jekiri was accurate from the free-throw line, Sterling Brown threw down a dunk for Partizan, but the guests from Greece occasionally seized the initiative. Still, strong defense by Partizan and a three-pointer by Cameron Payne once again put the Black-and-Whites in the lead, which they maintained until halftime (+12), 45:33.

The third quarter proved decisive. Partizan dominated and extended the margin, with Sterling Brown and Cameron Payne increasing the lead from possession to possession. In the 10th minute of the third period, an incident occurred: Nikos Rogavopoulos struck Arijan Lakić, which caused a scuffle on the court. Nevertheless, Partizan kept control, and Bonga and Cameron Payne pushed the lead to +24 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Black-and-Whites calmly protected their advantage and, although they slowed the tempo, finished the game with a convincing 78:62 win. Partizan thus snapped a negative streak, and an additional motivation for the players was certainly the much better performance compared to the previous period.

On the other side, Ataman is under heavy pressure, and the return of Željko Obradović to Athens seems increasingly likely, at least according to Greek media reports.

Cameron Payne led Partizan to victory with 18 points, Sterling Brown and Isaac Bonga added 16 each, and Bruno Fernando scored 11. T.J. Shorts was the only double-digit scorer for Panathinaikos with 21 points.
