The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump held “preliminary discussions” on plans for a potential attack on Iran, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported today, citing unnamed sources.

According to the newspaper, as reported by RIA Novosti and the Times of Israel, the talks were held after repeated threats by Trump that the United States would attack Iran if the authorities of that country killed demonstrators, which, as stated in the report, did happen.

Sources of the American newspaper state that the discussions focused on possible targets and consideration of options, including the possibility of launching a “broad air strike” on Iranian military facilities.

At the same time, the paper notes that there are no indications that an imminent attack on Iran is being prepared, nor that there has been any redeployment of U.S. military equipment or personnel for that purpose.
