The first video of the shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney has appeared on social media, in which bursts of gunfire can be heard as people flee in panic from one of Australia’s most visited beaches.
Witnesses describe scenes of complete chaos, fear, and confusion, as thousands of people tried to take cover in panic.
“Thousands of people just started running. I opened the back gate of my friend’s café and let everyone inside. I just saw people running away,” one witness told Australian 9News.
The Ravesis Hotel, located on the waterfront, was closed after the incident, but one employee said that they left one room open for people who were “too scared to go outside.”
“Through the window we saw hundreds of people running along Hall Street. I thought it was a tsunami,” the hotel worker said.
