A group of students who set out from Subotica to Novi Sad arrived in Kisač. As they were leaving the village, they stopped in front of the house of Teodora Martinko, the only survivor of the collapsed canopy.

In front of her house, near Kisač, the gathered students applauded loudly for several minutes and shouted “pumpaj.”

Teodora Martinko (24) from Kisač, a young mother and a student of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, was the only person who survived the collapse of the concrete canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1 of last year.

That day, 14 people lost their lives, including two children. A little over two weeks later, another woman passed away, and four and a half months later, the number of victims rose to 16, when Vukašin Crnčević (19) died at the Military Medical Academy due to complications.

Teodora fortunately survived, but with severe consequences from her injuries. She was in life-threatening condition for six months, and both her legs and part of her pelvis were amputated.
