Serbian citizen Alon Ohel, a musician whom Hamas released on Monday after more than two years of captivity, played the piano for the first time since October 7, 2023, in a hospital room at Beilinson Hospital in Tel Aviv.

This was confirmed to Channel 12 by his mother, Idit Ohel.

“A few minutes ago, he sat down at the piano in his room and played a little, after not touching the piano for two years,” Idit said, adding that he will slowly return to playing at the level he was accustomed to.

Ohel’s family used donated pianos around the world as a way to raise awareness about his difficult situation.

When asked about the poor condition of one of Alon’s eyes, which was reported by hostages released earlier this year, she says that “Alon sees very little with his right eye.”

“He has not yet undergone exhaustive tests; we will see,” she added.

Idit emphasizes that her son knows nothing about what happened in Israel over the past two years, except that there was a war.

“He was shocked when he saw so many people in Hostages Square and strangers holding his picture,” she said.

“We are going step by step, at Alon’s pace,” his mother said.
