Police arrested a 52-year-old man; an investigation into the accident near St. James Cathedral is underway.

Near St. James Cathedral in Šibenik last night, a woman was injured during the firing of a pyrotechnic device—a flare—and died in the hospital from her injuries, Croatian police reported.

The statement from the Šibenik-Knin Police Administration added that a 52-year-old man suspected of the act has been arrested, Hina reports.

A criminal investigation is currently in progress, the police stated.

Croatian media unofficially report that the accident occurred during a wedding celebration when the suspect fired a signal flare.
