Novak Djokovic has advanced to the US Open semifinals after defeating American Taylor Fritz with a score of 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. He will now face Carlos Alcaraz for a spot in the final.
Djokovic dedicated his quarterfinal victory over Fritz to his daughter Tara for her birthday. The greatest of all time won with a score of 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, and we’ll see him play on Friday against Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic and Fritz have played each other 11 times, and Nole has won every match.
Last year at the Olympics, Tara Đoković held a sign that read, “My dad is the best,” and after this victory against Fritz in the US Open quarterfinals, it’s safe to say she wasn’t wrong.
While her dad may not be the best on the planet according to the current ATP rankings, he is certainly one of the greatest of all time. We witnessed an excellent quarterfinal match, and even after their 11th encounter, Nole remains undefeated against Taylor Fritz!

Match Breakdown
Looking back at the match, Đoković dominated the first two sets, largely thanks to his psychological edge over Fritz. However, nerves got the better of him in the third, and the pressure once again took its toll on the American in the fourth, causing him to end the match with a double fault.
Djokovic broke Fritz’s serve in the very first game, immediately establishing his dominance. He routinely held his lead until he had a set point at 5-2, which he missed. In the next game, Fritz earned two break points at 15-40 and went on to have three more in that same game, but Djokovic saved them all. One rally, a stunning 25-shot exchange, prompted the crowd to give a standing ovation and start cheering for him. After an eight-minute game, Djokovic finally earned the set point and converted it to take a 1-0 lead.

Serving for the second set at 5-4, the Serb allowed Fritz to break him, making the score 5-5. This moment perfectly highlighted Fritz’s psychological instability. The fear seemed to paralyze him, and he struggled with his first serve. Djokovic capitalized on this, immediately breaking back and then successfully serving out the set, correcting his previous mistake and taking a 2-0 lead.
Just when it seemed like the match was over, a new chapter began. The third set was decided in the fourth game. Djokovic’s concentration briefly slipped, and the crowd started booing him. He even got into an argument with the umpire. He saved the first break point, but Fritz played his bravest tennis on the second, securing the break for a 3-1 lead.
During that game, Djokovic had a heated exchange with the umpire. “What exactly do you intend to do?” he asked, to which the umpire replied, “Novak, this won’t help you!” And it didn’t. Djokovic’s frustration grew, while the American easily held his advantage. Fritz’s serve was much better, and the Serb never got a break point. Fritz took the set 6-3.
The final set was close until 5-4. The tension was palpable, and then Fritz faltered once more, ending the match with a double fault.
And just like that, Tara received the best birthday present imaginable.
