On Saturday, July 19, 2025, an agreement was officially signed between Hamburg’s Ohlsdorf Cemetery and the Church Municipality of Hamburg for the acquisition and arrangement of a plot to serve the burial needs of members of the Serbian Orthodox community in Hamburg.
On behalf of Ohlsdorf Cemetery, the agreement was signed by Ms. Anja Wiebke, and on behalf of the Church Municipality, by Mr. Ranko Veselinović, president of the church board of directors.
The aforementioned plot was symbolically and ceremoniously handed over to our community last year, prior to the grand consecration of the Holy Archangel Michael Church, in the presence of His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Mr. Porfirije and German Metropolitan Grigorije. In the interim, the future appearance of the plot has been meticulously agreed upon. It will be marked by signposts on the main cemetery roads and enriched with a large memorial cross that will dominate the plot, as well as appropriate amenities (stone tables, benches, and suitably landscaped green areas).
Ohlsdorf Cemetery is the largest park cemetery in the world, and with its design and cultivation of a culture of remembrance, it truly represents a place of floral beauty and repose.
