At the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the most prestigious international mathematics competition for students up to 19 years old worldwide, held from July 10 to July 20 in Australia, Serbian representatives won two silver and two bronze medals, as well as two honorable mentions.
Medalists and Honorees
Stefan Šebez and Novak Despotović secured the silver medals, while Petar Banović and Vladimir Branković earned bronze medals. Vladimir Lukić and Nenad Marković received honorable mentions. All representatives are students of the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade.
This year, over 630 students from more than 110 countries participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad. The selection of competitors who represented Serbia, as well as their preparation for the competition, was organized by the Serbian Mathematical Society, with the support of the Ministry of Education.
The team leaders were Dr. Miljan Knežević from the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade, and Teodor von Burg from the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade.
