Some residents of Tehran are fleeing Iran’s capital as panic grows amid the escalating conflict with Israel. Many are heading north, near the Caspian Sea, to more rural and isolated areas. However, as residents told CNN, the roads are so congested that movement is extremely difficult. One family, wishing to remain anonymous, decided to leave Tehran with their two young children and elderly parents. They are concerned that the government has housed officials and military leaders in densely populated, middle-class neighborhoods, further endangering civilians.

“I don’t want to leave my home, but I won’t put my small children in this situation,” said the father. “I hope the US intervenes and stops the attacks between these two countries.”

Fuel Shortages and Mass Exodus

In the city of Shiraz, long queues are forming for fuel. Residents are also stocking up on food, water, and diapers. Cars packed with families, with suitcases and water bottles strapped to their roofs, have been seen across the city as many flee towards villages.

One family stated they waited an hour to fill up their car with fuel so they could begin their journey. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to “strike every location and every target of the Ayatollah’s regime,” alluding to Iran’s Supreme Leader.
