Washington D.C., USA – The United States Senate has confirmed the nomination of real estate investor Charles Kushner as Ambassador to France. He is the father of Jared Kushner, who is the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Charles Kushner was pardoned by Donald Trump in December 2020, several years after pleading guilty to tax evasion and illegal campaign donations.
Kushner is the founder of Kushner Companies, a real estate firm. His son, Jared, is a former senior advisor to Trump in the White House and is married to Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka. When he announced his intention to nominate Charles Kushner in November, Trump called him “an exceptional business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker.”

At his Senate confirmation hearing earlier this month, Kushner stated that he would work closely with France to “bring greater balance to our important economic relationship,” and also encouraged France to “invest more in their defense capabilities, as well as lead the EU towards aligning with the American vision of increased European obligations to security.”
He announced that he would travel to France as relations between the two traditional allies, as well as between the U.S. and the rest of Europe, have been strained due to Trump’s trade policies and the U.S. role in the war in Ukraine.
