Washington D.C., USA – U.S. President Donald Trump stated today, following a two-hour conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, that he believes the Russian leader wants peace with Ukraine.
The American leader confirmed this in response to reporters’ questions after a signing ceremony for one of the new U.S. laws at the White House.
“Yes, I think so,” Trump said when asked if he thought Putin wanted peace.
When asked by another journalist if he believed Putin, Trump briefly responded “yes,” CNN reports.

Commenting on the conversation with the Russian leader, Trump said he thought some progress had been made.
“There’s a horrible situation going on there – 5,000 young people are being killed every week, so I hope we’ve taken some action. We’ve also spoken with leaders of most European countries and we’re trying to finish that whole thing. What a shame it even started,” the U.S. President added.
In a post on his Truth Social platform after the call, Trump emphasized that Russia and Ukraine would immediately begin negotiations on a ceasefire and, “more importantly, on an end to the war.”
