“It’s a relic of the past, there is no need for government-funded media,” said U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Richard Grenell, referring to outlets such as Voice of America and RFE. His statement was quickly supported by Elon Musk, who responded: “Yes, shut them down.”
Grenell stated that American taxpayers fund Voice of America and Radio Free Europe, which he described as state-owned media.
“These media outlets are full of far-left activists. I’ve worked with these journalists for decades. It’s a relic of the past,” Grenell wrote on the platform X.
Radio Free Europe and Voice of America are media outlets paid for by the American taxpayers.

It is state-owned media.
These outlets are filled with far left activists.
I’ve worked with these reporters for decades.
It’s a relic of the past. We don’t need government paid…
He emphasized that there is no need for government-funded media.
Elon Musk then responded to Grenell’s post with a short but direct message: “Yes, shut them down.”
“Europe is now free (aside from the suffocating bureaucracy), and no one listens to them anymore. It’s just radical leftists talking to themselves while burning a billion dollars a year from the pockets of American taxpayers,” wrote the world’s richest man and a key figure in Trump’s White House on X.
Cutting government spending and a “purge” of federal agencies were high on the agenda of Trump’s presidential campaign, which was linked to the “Project 2025” initiative by the Heritage Foundation and criticized by Democrats as a Trumpist platform.

1. Europe is free now (not counting stifling bureaucracy). Hello??
2. Nobody listens to them anymore.
3. It’s just radical left crazy people talking to themselves while torching $1B/year of US taxpayer money. https://t.co/PnmN4erD91
Notably, the Heritage Foundation played a significant role in shaping the “Bush Doctrine,” the not-so-successful strategy of George W. Bush Jr. in combating radical Islamist groups.
American political analysts argue that this foundation politically “killed” the healthcare reform plan once proposed by then-President Bill Clinton.
