A Serb who has been living abroad for years cannot get used to a sight that, he admits, surprises him every time he returns to his homeland – and because of which he admits that he is considering not coming back at all.
In an anonymous post on Reddit, he explained that he is very bothered by the fact that smoking is allowed in public places. He is particularly concerned that people smoke in places where there are small children, such as playgrounds and play areas.
“My children and I live abroad so it’s very unusual for us when we come to Greece by the sea, and there are a lot of people smoking on the beach and balconies. In Serbia, people smoke next to children’s playgrounds, I just don’t know how to react – should I sit at home or suffocate outside on the fresh “Zlatibor tobacco”.

The building next to us had a restaurant with an indoor play area for children, which, of course, you reach when you pass through the smoking restaurant… To protect the health of young children, we are considering no longer visiting family in Serbia. Does anyone else have similar experiences?”, he wrote.
“Who do you think you are, a princess?”
However, his post did not bring the comments he might have expected. Most Reddit users attacked him for exaggerating.
“I understand why you don’t like smoking indoors, I agree that it should be banned. But you’re bothered by people smoking outside, next to playgrounds. Yes, the smoke is chasing the children around the playground, poor kids. Who do you think you are, a princess”, “You sit where there’s no smoking. You’re getting on our nerves with these topics”, “You shouldn’t come and visit your family anymore, that’s the solution”, they wrote to him.
Of course, there were also those who supported him, explaining that they themselves can hardly stand the presence of smoke in indoor spaces as well as in public places.
