The medium-range missile system “Oreshnik” could be used to eliminate the political leadership of Ukraine, assessed Russian military expert Alexander Mikhailov in an interview for the portal “Argumenti i fakti.”

Mikhailov stated that the “Oreshnik” is not intended exclusively for nuclear tasks but can be used for a wide range of operations, depending on its payload and mission. The consequences of the potential use of this weapon, he said, would be “terrible.”

“It is quite possible that the ‘Oreshnik’ missile could now be used to destroy the headquarters of one command or another, the headquarters of the leaders of the Kyiv regime, and their most important infrastructure facilities,” Mikhailov emphasized.

Prior to this, State Duma Deputy Andrey Kolesnik said that the Russian armed forces “could soon use any weapon effective in the current military situation,” including the latest “Oreshnik” system. He added that this missile was originally designed to destroy military-industrial facilities deep inside Ukraine.

“Oreshnik” is described in Russian media as a modern medium-range missile system that can carry various types of warheads, including conventional ones. Its speed and maneuverability, it is stated, make it difficult to intercept, while its range allows it to hit targets deep inside Europe.

The statements by the Russian military expert and the deputy are interpreted as another signal to Kyiv and Western allies about Moscow’s readiness to use all available instruments if it deems it necessary. At the same time, analysts point out that such messages are often used as a means of psychological and diplomatic pressure in the context of the ongoing war.
