Serbian basketball player Vasilije Micić is the newest member of Hapoel, the Tel Aviv club confirmed today, finally bringing to an end one of the longest and most uncertain transfer sagas of this summer.
The Israelis cast their “hook” for our national team player even before his NBA career concluded. For months, they listened for news from the United States, followed Phoenix’s moves, the trade to Charlotte, the forwarding to Milwaukee…
They offered big money, publicly expressing their determination to dig deep into their pockets for, at one time, the best basketball player in Europe. They waited and seized the moment to grab him, even though Fenerbahçe, Olympiacos, Real Madrid, and Crvena Zvezda were also in contention.

Micić’s Lucrative New Deal and EuroLeague Return
Micić will therefore be much, much richer, specifically (unofficially) by six million euros per season over a three-year contract. And, no less importantly, he will have the opportunity to play in the EuroLeague again, as the winner of the last EuroCup will be part of the elite in the 2025/26 season, along with already acquired reinforcements.
Vasilije has won the EuroLeague twice with Turkish Efes. Before that, he also played for Žalgiris, Tofaş, Crvena Zvezda, Bayern, and Mega, where he started his career. He left a mark everywhere, except in American clubs, where he never got a real chance.
