Russian forces have intensified efforts to push Ukrainian troops from their positions, and by the end of November, Ukraine lost 40 percent of the territory it controlled in the Kursk region.

Ukrainian special operations forces report that during an attack on enemy positions in the Kursk region, they killed 17 Russian soldiers who were attempting to reclaim territory seized by Ukraine earlier this summer.

Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) launched an attack behind enemy lines in Kursk, killing 17 Russian soldiers and capturing 12, according to a report from the SSO on Telegram.

The Marine Center and the 6th Ranger Regiment played key roles in the operation. The SSO released a video, which Kiev Post could not independently verify, showing close combat and the moment when Russian soldiers were captured.

A brigade of marines from Sevastopol in Crimea (under Russian control) allegedly paid bribes to avoid deployment to Kursk, according to a report by the Ukrainian sabotage group “AteÅ”.”

Since August 2024, Ukrainian forces have been launching offensive operations in Kursk. This is part of a broader strategy to weaken Russian defenses in the area and reduce their capacity for future attacks on Ukrainian territory.

In response, Russian forces have increased efforts to push Ukrainian troops from their positions. By the end of November, Ukraine lost 40 percent of the territory it controlled in the Kursk region.

In a recent BBC report, Ukrainian soldiers in the region claim they have received instructions to hold their positions until Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025.

“Our main task is to hold as much territory as possible until Trump’s inauguration and the start of negotiations,” said Ukrainian soldier Pavlo.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin aims to expel Ukrainian forces from Kursk by January to establish control over the region.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Combating Disinformation at the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, dismissed the claim that Ukrainian forces were ordered to hold the region until Trump’s inauguration.

He emphasized that the mission of the Ukrainian military aligns with broader strategic goals and is part of ongoing combat efforts on various fronts.

Anastasia BljiŔčik, spokesperson for the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade, stated on November 12 that Russian forces launched several waves of attacks, but Ukrainian forces destroyed 10 armored vehicles and repelled the attack using mines, FPV drones, and Stugna anti-tank systems.

Analyst Julian Ropke, who writes for Bild, noted that Russian forces are suffering significant losses in their offensive.

The “New York Times” also reported that Russian and North Korean forces are preparing for a large-scale attack in the area, potentially involving up to 50,000 soldiers.
