Supporters of the Student List and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) were involved in a verbal confrontation that escalated into a physical clash during protests organized by both sides near the “Moravica” roundabout in Čačak.
Last night, supporters of the Student List organized a gathering at the roundabout at one of the entrances to Čačak, carrying flags reading “Students Are Winning” and banners with the slogans “Honk for a Student.”
SNS supporters also appeared at the location, lighting flares and carrying a banner reading “See You on Monday – Čačak Stands with Vučić,” announcing the arrival in the city of their candidate for prime minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
A verbal confrontation first broke out between the two opposing groups of citizens. SNS supporters then seized a flag from Student List supporters, while at one point, SNS supporters were pelted with eggs from a moving car.
The police prevented more serious clashes by forming a cordon that successfully separated the opposing groups.
Citizens supporting the Student List announced that they would continue holding gatherings at the “Moravica” roundabout in Čačak until the elections.
